Enhanced Policy Scenarios for Major Emitting Countries

This report, produced by PBL, NewClimate Institute, IIASA, and Ecofys, analyzes projected greenhouse gas emissions for seven major emitting countries through 2030. It evaluates the impact of current, planned, and enhanced mitigation policies to determine their potential to narrow the gap between expected emission levels and those required to meet the 2°C climate target.

• The report provides an overview of projected greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for seven major emitting countries—Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, and the United States—extending the analysis out to 2030.
• The analysis examines emissions trajectories based on three levels of policy intervention: current policies, planned policies, and a selection of enhanced mitigation actions aligned with national priorities.
• The report estimates the extent to which the aggregated reduction from all enhanced policies can reduce the gap between expected emission levels and the levels necessary to meet the 2°C climate target for the years 2025 and 2030.
