As the climate crisis worsens, the warming projections are flatlining

A briefing by the NewClimate Institute reporting that global warming projections for 2100 have remained stagnant since 2021, with current policies leading to a median projected warming of 2.7°C.

• Global warming projections for the year 2100 have not improved since 2021, with current policies placing the world on a trajectory toward a median warming of 2.7°C. There is a 33% probability that warming will reach 3.0°C or higher and a 10% probability it will reach 3.6°C or higher.
• The election of Donald Trump as President may increase projected temperature levels. Depending on the extent of policy rollbacks, this could add 0.04°C to the current policy estimate of 2.7°C or a few tenths of a degree to the optimistic 1.9°C scenario, hindering efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C.
• Progress in renewable energy and electric vehicle deployment, including clean energy investments that now double those for fossil fuels, is being offset by fossil fuel subsidies at all-time highs and a quadrupling of funding for fossil fuel-prolonging projects between 2021 and 2022. Consequently, emissions are expected to peak by the end of the decade but will not decline steeply enough to meet the Paris Agreement goal.
