Little change in warming outlook now for four years

A briefing by the NewClimate Institute reporting that global warming projections have remained stagnant at 2.6°C for four consecutive years, despite the acceleration of renewable energy.

• Global warming projections based on the Climate Action Tracker’s (CAT) "2030 and 2035 targets" scenario have remained at 2.6°C for four years, as most of the 40 analyzed governments have not updated their 2030 targets.
• The gap between current climate targets and the 1.5°C pathway is expected to increase from 29 GtCO₂e to 31 GtCO₂e between 2030 and 2035, an increase of approximately 2 billion tonnes of CO₂e.
• In 2025, renewable energy surpassed coal as the primary source of global electricity generation for the first time, although fossil fuel expansion continues to threaten emissions reductions.
• Since 2015, global temperature projections for 2100 have decreased by approximately 1°C, falling from an estimated 3.6°C to around 2.6°C.
• The IPCC Sixth Assessment Report suggests a high probability that warming will peak above 1.6°C even if global emissions are cut by 50 percent by 2030, though implementing the highest ambition options could limit peak warming to 1.7°C.
