• Germany's current climate protection goals are not compatible with the 1.5°C limit. Following the federal government's current target path would result in greenhouse gas emissions between 20% and 130% higher than what is permitted for 1.5°C by the middle of the century. The goal of "broad greenhouse gas neutrality by the middle of the century" from the Climate Action Plan 2050 is insufficient on its own; the speed of emission reductions between 2020 and 2040 is the critical factor.
