Climate Change Performance Index 2019

The Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2019 monitors the climate policy and emissions progress of 56 countries and the EU to inform the revision of Nationally Determined Contributions by 2020. It emphasizes the IPCC's finding that global emissions must drop by 45% by 2030 (compared to 2010) to limit warming to 1.5°C.

• To meet the Paris Agreement targets and limit global warming to 1.5°C, the IPCC indicates that greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced rapidly across all sectors, specifically requiring a 45% decrease in global emissions by 2030 relative to 2010 levels. Global CO2 emissions are required to decline by 2050.
• The Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) has tracked national efforts to combat climate change for 14 years and is intended to inform the process of raising climate ambition as countries prepare to submit amended national climate targets (revised Nationally Determined Contributions – NDCs) by 2020.
• The CCPI 2018 methodology was revised to more accurately demonstrate existing measures and now monitors the development of all GHG emissions for the EU and 56 countries. The index evaluates countries based on their current status and future targets in three categories: "Energy Use", "Renewable Energy", and "GHG Emissions", while also assessing the Paris-compatibility of these factors and evaluating climate policy ambition and progress.
