• The compulsory land acquisition process consists of eight steps following the NLC's publication of notice: serving notice to interested parties, inspection and assessment, publication of a Notice of Inquiry, a hearing of claims, the award of compensation (monetary or alternative land), payment of compensation, government possession of the land, and the surrender of title documents to the Registrar of Lands.
• Any 'interested person' has the right to lodge a claim for compensation with the NLC. This definition includes individuals whose interest is registered in the land registry, their spouses, any person actually occupying the land, and the spouses of those in occupation.
