PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN THE SOUTH COAST

A fact sheet by Natural Justice regarding the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) phase for offshore surveys proposed by Main Street 1549 (Pty) Ltd in Blocks 9 & 11B/12B off the South Coast.

• The project is currently in the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) phase, which requires the applicant to consult affected communities to ensure transparency and accountability through meaningful participation, impact assessments on environmental and socio-economic harms, and full disclosure of risks.
• The Draft ESIA Report was available for public review from 14 July to 14 August 2025, with hard copies provided at libraries in St. Francis Bay, Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, and Mossel Bay.
• A series of public meetings were scheduled between 14 July and 22 July 2025 in Mossel Bay, George, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Tsitsikamma, Kareedouw, Jeffreys Bay, and St Francis Bay, with an online meeting held on 24 July.
