Decree No. 73-275, issued on March 19, 1973, establishes a protected perimeter around Lake Guiers and the Taouey creek in Senegal to protect water quality and user interests.

• A protection perimeter has been established around the Taouey creek and Lake Guiers, extending from the mouth of the creek to the Momar-Sarr dam.
• The boundaries of the protected zone are defined as 150 meters inland from the public domain limits for both the lake and the southern bank of the Taouey; for the northern bank of the Taouey, the zone is the area between the creek and the embankments of the rice paddies.
• Within the protected perimeter, construction is prohibited without authorization from the general hydraulics directorate, and the discharge of wastewater or the dumping of garbage is strictly forbidden.
• Any miscellaneous deposits, even temporary ones, within the perimeter require prior authorization from the general hydraulics directorate, which will be denied if the action could pollute the lake waters or harm user interests.
• Responsibility for the water police of Lake Guiers is assigned to the governors of the Fleuve and Diourbel Regions, the hygiene services of those regions, the national security director, the Gendarmerie director, and the general hydraulics director.
