To the Youth of South Africa: Youth Day 2020

A statement by Natural Justice on Youth Day 2020, acknowledging the legacy of the 16 June 1976 Uprising in South Africa and expressing support for youth-led struggles against inequality, planetary crisis, and big polluters.

• The 16 June 1976 Uprising, which started in Soweto and expanded across the country, significantly altered South Africa's socio-political environment, serving as both a reminder of apartheid's brutality and a symbol of hope.
• South Africa is identified as the most unequal country globally. Current struggles for youth include equal education, their own future, the future of the Earth, and opposition to extractive industries, big polluters, human ignorance, and apathy.
• Natural Justice describes itself as a youthful organisation that supports youth leaders globally and commits to providing spaces for young people to develop as leaders, lawyers, paralegals, and community mobilisers through learning about the law.
