Tribute to Mzee Abubakar Al-Amudy

A tribute from Natural Justice honoring Mzee Abubakar Al-Amudy, the Chair and co-founder of Save Lamu, following his death on June 21, 2020.

• Mzee Abubakar Al-Amudy served as the Chair of Save Lamu for over 10 years, an organization he helped found that addresses human rights, environmental, and social issues in Lamu.
• Natural Justice provided technical and training support to Save Lamu for a Biocultural Community Protocol (BCP) process intended to improve community responses to government development projects and their impacts in the region.
• Mzee Al-Amudy was a key figure in the successful legal challenge against the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) in Kenya regarding the environmental license granted to Amu Power for the construction of the Lamu Coal Plant.
