Tirer parti des marchés durables pour réduire la pauvreté et favoriser le développement durable

The IISD project 'Tirer parti des marchés durables pour réduire la pauvreté et favoriser le développement durable' aims to prevent the marginalization of poor producers in least developed countries. By increasing transparency and providing data on over 400 voluntary sustainability standards (VSS), the project seeks to enable these countries to develop evidence-based strategies for sustainable production and market access. The initiative includes data collection, a digital platform, and tailored advisory services, initially targeting six pilot countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

• Sustainable agricultural raw materials are increasing in global markets, with sustainable palm oil reaching up to 20 percent and cocoa up to 30 percent of global production.
• Production meeting sustainability standards tends to concentrate in more advanced, export-oriented economies with higher production capacity, which marginalizes the poorest producers.
• Producers and government institutions in least advanced countries struggle to access information on the utility, performance, and best practices of the more than 400 voluntary sustainability standards (VSS) currently in existence.
• The IISD project will initially target six pilot countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to provide targeted data collection, analysis, and knowledge dissemination.
