The Measure of Progress

The 'Dashboard of Sustainability' is a visually-engaging online tool developed by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) to measure sustainable development performance across economic, environmental, social, and institutional dimensions.

• The tool employs a color-coded gauge system to indicate sustainability levels: green represents the most positive conditions, yellow is neutral, and red signals an urgent warning of non-sustainability.
• The initial development of the Dashboard took over two years and cost half-a-million dollars. A second phase requiring US$250,000 in funding aims to create a state-of-the-art database, improve internet seamlessness, and revamp indicator sets based on user needs.
