INFASA: A Dialogue on Sustainable Agriculture

INFASA is a strategic dialogue forum aimed at advancing sustainable agriculture by improving the development, use, and mainstreaming of sustainability measurement and assessment tools through stakeholder collaboration.

• INFASA seeks to create a convergence of ideas and practices regarding the definition, measurement, and application of sustainability in agriculture to promote sustainable production.
• The current challenge in sustainable agriculture has shifted from the creation of new indicator and assessment tools to understanding how existing tools function in practice, how they can co-exist, and how experimental methods can be integrated into mainstream use.
• Effective measurement and assessment tools for agriculture must balance complexity with manageability, ensuring they are transparent, robust, and visually clear. These tools should incorporate stakeholder participation and balance global standardization with local needs, while addressing holistic social domains.
• INFASA identifies the need for next-generation tools to address evolving issues, such as measuring the carbon footprint of agriculture and managing data requirements for traceability. To mainstream these tools, the initiative suggests using demonstration projects at the commodity or supply chain level combined with capacity building.
