Integrating Investor Obligations and Corporate Accountability Provisions in Trade and Investment Agreements

This document provides a synthesis of an expert meeting co-organized by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) held in Versoix, Switzerland, on January 11–12, 2018. The meeting brought together 30 experts from various fields to discuss the incorporation of investor obligations and corporate accountability provisions within international economic agreements, including trade agreements and international investment agreements.

• An expert meeting co-organized by IISD and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) took place on January 11–12, 2018, in Versoix, Switzerland, to discuss the integration of investor obligations and corporate accountability provisions in trade and investment agreements.
• A group of 30 experts with backgrounds in law, economics, diplomacy, environment, human rights, investment, and trade met to identify methods for articulating and incorporating investor obligations into international economic agreements, specifically international investment agreements and trade agreements with investment chapters.
