Delivering on G-20 Commitments: The path to fossil-fuel subsidy reform

This policy brief examines the progress made by G-20 leaders toward phasing out inefficient fossil-fuel subsidies following the September 2009 Pittsburgh Summit and the June 2010 Toronto Summit, providing a roadmap and six recommended actions for the November 11-12, 2010, Seoul Summit.

• At the September 2009 Pittsburgh Summit, G-20 leaders acknowledged that inefficient fossil-fuel subsidies cause market distortions, encourage wasteful consumption, hinder clean energy investment, and obstruct climate change mitigation efforts, leading to a commitment to phase out and rationalize such subsidies.
