State of the Sector: Critical energy transition minerals for India

This report outlines strategies for India to secure a reliable supply of critical energy transition materials (CETMs) to support its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.

• India has committed to reaching net-zero emissions by 2070, a goal that requires a reliable and responsible value chain for critical energy transition materials (CETMs).
• The report recommends enhancing domestic mineral capabilities by promoting exploration and processing through technology advancement, incentivizing exploration, extending the Composite Licence regime, increasing the National Mineral Exploration Trust's ambit, and improving processing capabilities.
• To ensure CETM security, the report suggests promoting international cooperation via overseas resource development, mineral stockpiling, contract standardization, and diplomacy, alongside regular sector assessments and the promotion of recycling and circularity through Resource Recovery Parks and incentives for the informal sector.
