Renewables Readiness Assessment Country Case Study: Senegal

This document is a preliminary report on a pilot study conducted in Senegal at the end of 2011 to test the Renewables Readiness Assessment (RRA) methodology developed by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

• The Renewables Readiness Assessment (RRA) is a methodology created by IISD and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) designed to help countries evaluate their readiness for deploying renewable energy by identifying existing conditions and potential improvements.
• The RRA methodology is designed to be flexible, covering various energy needs—including motive power, electricity, heat, and transport—and renewable energy sources as determined by the specific country.
• At the end of 2011, the RRA methodology underwent pilot testing through studies in Mozambique and Senegal, with this specific document serving as the preliminary report for the Senegal case.
