Burning Problems, Inspiring Solutions: Sharing lessons on action against tobacco and fossil fuels

This report advocates for the regulation of fossil fuels to combat air pollution and climate change by applying lessons learned from tobacco control strategies. It emphasizes the health impacts of fossil fuel combustion and proposes a framework for government intervention and just transitions.

• Fossil fuel combustion is identified as a primary source of toxic air pollution, resulting in approximately 7 million deaths annually, a figure nearly equal to the number of deaths attributed to tobacco smoking. The process releases gases and particles that cause cancer as well as cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.
