Building Resilience With Nature: Ecosystem-based Adaptation in National Adaptation Plan Processes

This report analyzes 19 National Adaptation Plan (NAP) documents to determine how ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) is integrated into national climate strategies. It highlights EbA as a nature-based solution that provides social, economic, and environmental benefits to build climate resilience.

• Ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) is recognized as a nature-based solution that reduces community vulnerability to climate change by utilizing ecosystem services. It offers diverse co-benefits, including the protection of biodiversity, food security, improved health, and the creation of alternative livelihood opportunities, which collectively enhance climate resilience.
• The National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process serves as a strategic mechanism to increase the visibility of EbA approaches and can provide the necessary framework and financial resources to implement these solutions at scale.
