Understanding Green Climate Fund Support for Adaptation Planning

This report analyzes Green Climate Fund (GCF) readiness proposals as of August 31, 2024, examining how 102 countries have utilized funding (up to USD 3 million per country) for National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) to identify gaps and improve the transition from planning to implementation by 2030.

• The Green Climate Fund (GCF) provides a dedicated funding window for developing countries to request up to USD 3 million to support the formulation of national adaptation plans (NAPs) and associated planning activities. From 2016 through August 31, 2024, the GCF approved 113 NAP Readiness proposals across 102 countries.
• The report aims to analyze how the USD 3 million GCF allocation is used to strengthen adaptation planning and build national knowledge and capacities, while identifying gaps to meet the first global stocktake's goals of having national adaptation plans, policies, and processes by 2025 and progressing in their implementation by 2030.
