Tracking Progress on the Integration of Nature-Based Solutions and Ecosystem-Based Adaptation in National Adaptation Plan Processes

This report by the NAP Global Network evaluates the integration of nature-based solutions (NbS), ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA), and biodiversity considerations within 57 multi-sector national adaptation plan (NAP) documents submitted to the UNFCCC as of July 31, 2024.

• The report provides an updated analysis of how countries integrate NbS and EbA into their NAPs, utilizing a larger sample size than a previous 2020 review and incorporating outcomes from the first global stocktake under the Paris Agreement and renewed biodiversity commitments under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
• The analysis is based on a desk-based review of 57 multi-sector NAP documents submitted to the UNFCCC by July 31, 2024, focusing on specific criteria including references to EbA and NbS, the inclusion of biodiversity in climate risk assessments, the identification of vulnerable ecosystems, alignment with National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAP), and the types of EbA/NbS measures identified.
