Tracking Progress on the Integration of Nature-Based Solutions and Ecosystem-Based Adaptation in National Adaptation Plan Processes

The report evaluates how countries incorporate nature-based solutions and ecosystem-based adaptation into their national adaptation plans, analyzing 57 documents to identify references to natural infrastructure, biodiversity risk assessments, and alignment with National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans.

• The report's analysis is based on a desk-based review of 57 multi-sector national adaptation plan (NAP) documents submitted to the UNFCCC as of July 31, 2024. The review specifically examined references to EbA, NbS, ecosystem management, natural infrastructure, and the inclusion of ecosystems within climate risk assessments.
• The assessment focused on several key integration metrics, including whether ecosystems are listed as a stand-alone priority sector, the identification of vulnerable ecosystem types, and the existence of synergies and alignment between NAPs and National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAP) developed under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
