UNI2 Microcrédito, a Microfinance Organisation Serving Rural and Farming Communities in Colombia

This case study examines UNI2 Microcrédito, a Colombian microfinance institution, to evaluate the applicability of the Responsible Agricultural Investment (RAI) Tool to financial intermediaries rather than direct agribusinesses. The study analyzes how UNI2 supports business compliance with the Committee on World Food Security's Principles for Responsible Investment in Agriculture and Food Systems (CFS-RAI) among its rural and urban clients within agricultural value chains.

• UNI2 Microcrédito was included in the study to test if the Responsible Agricultural Investment (RAI) Tool is versatile and applicable to entities other than agribusinesses, specifically financial intermediaries that lend to agricultural value chain actors.
• The evaluation of UNI2's alignment with responsible investment principles utilized an adapted methodology consisting of a management self-assessment and interviews facilitated by the International Institute for Sustainable Development.
• UNI2 provided feedback on the RAI Tool's scoring and filtering mechanisms, as well as indicators regarding hiring policies and pricing, which led to improvements in subsequent versions of the tool.
