Taking Advantage of ASEAN's Free Trade Agreements: A guide for small and medium-sized enterprises

This document consists of two distinct parts: a guide intended to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) leverage the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) free trade agreements to expand markets and promote regional growth, and a critical commentary on the United Kingdom's accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), highlighting potential threats to public health.

• ASEAN member states have worked to reduce trade barriers over the last decade, signing five major free trade agreements (FTAs) with Asia-Pacific countries to lower tariffs and simplify import and export processes. These initiatives allow SMEs to find new markets, increase output, create jobs, and support sustainable development in the region.
• The United Kingdom has joined the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), an active trade deal among 11 Pacific Rim countries. The document asserts that this agreement poses a major threat to public health and requires a health impact assessment, noting that many CPTPP provisions are similar to those in US-negotiated trade deals.
