• The civil society collective argues that existing employment programs cannot create the necessary scale of employment in the short to medium term. They suggest that a Basic Income Grant could provide economic stimulation, with an estimated multiplier effect between 0.8% and 2.52%.
• To facilitate policy implementation, the collective proposed the creation of a fixed-term Multi-Stakeholder Task Team to handle the extension and improvement of the R350 SRD Grant, as well as the appointment of a Presidential Expert Panel to research the design, financing, and infrastructure for a Basic Income Guarantee (BIG) in South Africa.
