Climate Finance Toolkit

The Climate Finance Toolkit, produced by the Climate Ambition to Accountability Project, is a resource for civil society, trade unions, and state actors to advocate for rights-based climate investment and a just transition to a low-carbon economy.

• There is an urgent need for increased financing to achieve climate goals in developing countries, as both climate change and mitigation policies have significant human rights implications. Risks include loss of livelihoods, illness, and displacement caused by natural disasters or infrastructure projects like large-scale hydroelectric dams.
• Current climate finance practices often fail to protect human rights because profit-driven corporate agendas are not aligned with these rights, and there is a lack of enforcement and consequences.
• The toolkit is designed for climate justice campaigners in trade unions and civil society organisations, as well as parliamentarians, state actors, and community-based organisations. It aims to identify manageable intervention points for advocacy to reform the climate finance architecture and potentially overhaul the economic system to enable a just transition.
