DUODÉCIMA REUNION DE LA CONFERENCIA DE LAS PARTES (CoP)

The Twelfth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP) adopted seven resolutions concerning the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI). Key actions included the approval of the 2005-2006 basic budget and annual program, the appointment of Dr. Holm Tiessen as Executive Director for three years, and the election of four scientists to the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC). Additionally, the CoP approved CPTEC/INPE as an Affiliated Institution for the Climate Variability Program in the Americas and updated rules regarding SAC nominations and voting procedures.

• The CoP approved the basic budget request and member country contributions for the 2005-2006 fiscal year, as well as the IAI Annual Program for 2005-2006.
• The CoP approved the proposal for CPTEC/INPE to become an Affiliated Institution of the IAI specifically for the Climate Variability Program in the Americas.
• The CoP updated its regulations with new rules (64, 49, and 50) regarding the nomination process for the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the procedures for handling insufficient votes or ties during elections.
• The CoP elected Dr. Holm Tiessen as the new Executive Director of the IAI for a three-year term and appointed Telma Gloria Castro Romero, Michael Brklacich, Silvia L. Garzoli, and José Luis Mata as members of the SAC.
• The CoP delegated authority to the Executive Committee (CE) to approve proposals for CRN II at its next meeting.
