• The IAI Science Diplomacy Center (SDC) is operationalizing its work plan, including a 'Conversations between ministers' series and regional training. In August 2025, the SDC and Brazil's MCTI organized a science diplomacy training workshop in Brasilia for government officials from Latin America and the Caribbean.
• The IAI is advancing a research and training program on the nexus of climate, environment, and health. This includes a virtual course on health adaptation measures that registered 2,718 people and a practical training on the HARMONIZE 4health toolkit scheduled for November 2025 in Rio de Janeiro.
• Efforts to integrate indigenous and local knowledge are progressing through the establishment of the Indigenous Peoples Advisory Committee (IPAC). The IAI is finalizing the IPAC's norms and procedures, expected by December 2025, and promoting IPAC member participation in international events such as the IPCC and COP30.
• The IAI is implementing a program on the nexus of oceans, islands, and coastal systems. Key activities include the development of a PRODOC for GEF-8 titled 'SargMarine' for integrated sargassum management involving Colombia, Grenada, Jamaica, Panama, Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago.
• The IAI is coordinating transdisciplinary research through the Belmont Forum, including the 'Tropical Forests: Global Implications and Urgent Actions' (CRA FOREST) initiative, which received 34 full proposals by August 27, 2025. Additionally, eight seed grants of up to $50,000 each were awarded to tropical forest projects in collaboration with FAPESC and SENACYT.
• The IAI is promoting open science by implementing the IAI Harvard Dataverse and a scientific articles database. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed with La Referencia to integrate IAI-funded publications into the open access repository for Latin America and the Caribbean.
• The IAI is supporting El Salvador's accession to the IAI Agreement; as of May 2025, the request for accession is under review by the Presidential House before being sent to the Legislative Assembly.
