Decisions of the 32nd Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research

The 32nd Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) approved the 2024-2025 core budget and adopted a new Strategic Plan for 2024-2030. The meeting expanded the institute's network by inviting the Center for Climate and Resilience Research of the University of Chile, the Santa Catarina Research and Innovation Foundation (FAPESC), and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) to become Associates. Additionally, the Conference initiated the process of transitioning the IAI Headquarters from Uruguay to Panama and instructed the Directorate to develop advisory committees for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities.

• The Conference of the Parties approved the core budget for 2024-2025, which includes a 20% increase in voluntary contributions, and a preliminary request for 2025-2027 with annual increases of 5%.
• A new IAI Strategic Plan covering the period from 2024 to 2030 has been adopted, with the IAI Directorate tasked to monitor and evaluate activities and report outcomes annually.
• Three entities were invited to become Associates of the Institute: the Center for Climate and Resilience Research (CR2) of the University of Chile, the Santa Catarina Research and Innovation Foundation (FAPESC), and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI).
• The Conference initiated the relocation of the IAI Headquarters from Uruguay to Panama, inviting the creation of a Transition Committee and requesting an extension of operations in Uruguay until 31 July 2025.
• The IAI Directorate was instructed to design two advisory committees representing Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities and to train staff and fellows in Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).
