Report of the Ad-Hoc Committee on the Newsletter

The report recommends maintaining a reduced publication frequency of three issues per year for 2005 to manage costs and staff workload, while proposing improvements to content depth and a restructuring of the Editorial Board.

• Due to unsustainable financial costs and high workloads for senior officers and Directorate staff, the IAI reduced the Newsletter's frequency from four to three issues per year starting in 2004.
• The budget for four newsletter issues for the 2005–2006 period is estimated at US$ 45,067, which would decrease to US$ 33,977 if production is limited to three issues.
• The report identifies a need to strengthen the substance of the Newsletter by including more in-depth content, such as IAI Training Institute lectures, project updates, and information on global change in IAI countries, supported by a balanced annual content plan.
• The report recommends modifying the Editorial Board's composition by replacing one Science Advisory Committee (SAC) representative with a Conference of the Parties (CoP) representative.
