Standing Rules of the Science-Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research

The Standing Rules of the Science-Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) define the governance and operational framework for the committee. • The primary function of the SPAC is to provide guidance to the IAI Directorate and the CoP regarding the application and design of science to support policy and decision-making processes.
• The SPAC is required to meet at least once a year and typically holds joint meetings with the Scientific Advisory Committee on a monthly basis.
• Recommendations submitted to the Conference of the Parties by the SPAC, or jointly with the Scientific Advisory Committee, should ideally be reached by consensus; if consensus is not achieved, a two-thirds voting majority is required.
• The election of SPAC members must consider gender balance, geographic balance, and the inclusion of under-represented groups, in accordance with the IAI Gender Policy on scientific projects and activities.
