TWENTY-FIRST CONFERENCE OF THE PARTIES (CoP) OF THE IAI

The twenty-first meeting of the IAI Conference of the Parties (CoP), held in June 2013 in Montevideo, Uruguay, resulted in the approval of the FY 2013-2014 Core Budget Request, Country Contributions, and Annual Program. The meeting also updated accreditation rules for country representatives within the CoP and Executive Council and established an Advisory Committee on Science-Policy Liaison to advise on the use of science for policy and decision-making.

• The Conference of the Parties approved three primary financial and operational items for the 2013-2014 fiscal year: the Core Budget Request, the level of Country Contributions, and the Annual Program.
• The CoP updated Rule 3 of its Rules of Procedure to clarify the accreditation of country representatives. Parties that have not designated Permanent or Alternate Permanent Representatives must accredit a Representative through competent diplomatic authority prior to the Conference. This accreditation remains valid for the Executive Council Meeting immediately following the Conference.
• The CoP updated Rule 4 of the Executive Council Rules of Procedure, specifying that Parties elected to the Executive Council may be represented by their Permanent Representative to the IAI, a diplomatically accredited Representative to the Executive Council, or a similarly accredited Alternate.
• An Advisory Committee on Science-Policy Liaison was established to offer guidance to the IAI Directorates and the CoP on the design and application of science for decision-making and policy.
