The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Conference of the Parties (CoP) adopted eight resolutions during its eighteenth meeting on 15 and 16 June 2011 in Asuncion, Paraguay, covering budgetary approvals, personnel elections, and strategic planning.

• The CoP approved three primary administrative items for the 2011-2012 fiscal year: the Core Budget Request, the level of Country Contributions, and the Annual Program.
• The CoP elected four individuals—José Marengo, Walter Baethgen, Rodolfo Dirzo, and Frank Müller Karger—to serve as members of the Scientific Advisory Committee.
• The CoP approved the IAI Strategic Plan and established a Host Country Committee to advise nations interested in hosting the IAI Directorate. This committee consists of Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Paraguay, and the USA, with Guatemala as an alternate member, and was tasked with evaluating proposals by 15 November 2011.
• The CoP endorsed the creation of a virtual Center for Water Security, to be established at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the University of Arizona.
