RESOLUTION 1

A set of seven resolutions adopted by the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Conference of the Parties (CoP) during its twelfth meeting held on May 5-6, 2005, in Montreal, Canada.

• The CoP approved the Core Budget Request and Member Country Contributions for the 2005-2006 fiscal year, as well as the IAI Annual Program for 2005-2006.
• The CoP granted the EC the authority to approve CRN II proposals during its subsequent meeting.
• The CPTEC/INPE proposal was approved for the organization to become an Affiliated Institution of the IAI specifically for the Program on Climate Variability in the Americas.
• The CoP implemented three new Rules of Procedure (Rules 49, 50, and 64) regarding the nomination process for the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the conduct of runoff elections for vacancies and tied votes.
• The CoP elected Dr. Holm Tiessen as the IAI Director for a three-year term and appointed Telma Gloria Castro Romero, Michael Brklacich, Silvia L. Garzoli, and José Luis Mata to the SAC.
