Introdução à Diplomacia Científica para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável: Prioridades Regionais da América Latina rumo à COP30

This conceptual note describes a workshop (August 6-8, 2025) aimed at introducing science diplomacy to professionals in Latin America and the Caribbean. The event seeks to leverage Brazil's COP30 presidency to position the region as a leader in evidence-based climate solutions. The program includes panels on science diplomacy concepts, multilateral practices, and energy transition, alongside five working groups focused on creating regional governance agendas for climate, biodiversity, health, agriculture, energy, and emerging technologies.

• The workshop is designed to introduce science diplomacy as a strategic tool to integrate science and policy to address complex global challenges, such as climate change, and to strengthen institutional capacities in Latin America and the Caribbean for the COP30 process.
• The Brazilian presidency of COP30 in 2025 is identified as a unique opportunity for Latin America and the Caribbean to lead evidence-based solutions that address territorial inequalities and focus on people- and ecosystem-centered low-carbon trajectories.
• The initiative seeks to use science diplomacy to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge, policy formulation, and international cooperation, while fostering new institutional arrangements to sustain climate commitments.
• As part of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) dialogues for COP30, the workshop includes five working groups tasked with creating strategic recommendations for regional governance agendas in specific thematic areas:

• The workshop program emphasizes the role of science diplomacy in managing critical sectors for energy transition and climate adaptation, including renewable energy, nuclear energy, and the monitoring of oceans and the environment.
