A notification from the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) announcing the withdrawal of the United States from the organization following a presidential memorandum dated January 7, 2026.

• The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) received a United States presidential memorandum dated January 7, 2026, titled “Salida de los Estados Unidos de organizaciones, convenciones y tratados internacionales que sean contrarios a los intereses de los Estados Unidos”, which lists the IAI as one of 66 organizations from which the U.S. is withdrawing.
• According to Article XV of the Agreement for the Creation of the IAI, any intervening party may withdraw from the agreement via written notification to the Depositary through diplomatic channels, provided there is six months' notice before the effective date of withdrawal. The Organization of American States serves as the Depositary for this agreement.
• The National Science Foundation (NSF) has represented the United States within the IAI since its founding in 1992, providing scientific vision, leadership, and financial support to enhance regional capacity and collaborative research on global change.
