Annex - ENGLISH Call for Proposals : Tropical Forests: Global Implications and Urgent Actions

This document is an annex listing selected projects and proposals across four different funding calls managed or supported by the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research. The projects focus on tropical forests, human migration in the era of global change, climate-related health responses in the Americas, and urban ecosystem-based adaptation in the Global South.

• The 'Tropical Forests: Global Implications and Urgent Actions' call includes six projects scheduled for 2025–2026, focusing on sustainable visions for the Darién, agroforestry in the Brazilian Amazon, fire management in the Trifinio Region, ethnobotanical knowledge of the Ngäbe-Buglé, socioecological systems in Guatemala, and participatory mapping for the Amazon.
• The Belmont Forum Collaborative Research Action call on 'Integrated Approaches to Human Migration/Mobility in an Era of Rapid Global Change' supports three projects running from 2023 to 2026, covering immobility in a changing climate, global challenges and resilience under social stress, and the network effects of international migration and climate change.
• The 'Seed Grant Proposals for Climate, Environment and Health Responders in the Americas' call lists 12 projects. Most are marked as 'Completed' (2023–2025), addressing issues such as urban heat in Chile and Mexico City, dengue and diarrhea vulnerability in Peru, water quality in Chile, and heat waves affecting elderly people in Buenos Aires.
• The call for 'Catalyzing unconventional collaborations in the Global South for urban ecosystem-based adaptation ( EbA )' features five projects for 2025–2026, including sustainable management by a Mapuche community in Junín, restoration of social ecosystems in Colombia, biodiversity restoration in Los Laureles Canyon, waste recycling in the Tijuana River basin, and land use planning for wetlands in Chitré, Panama.
