Parties' Nominations for SPAC membership

This briefing consists of two letters from the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) requesting nominations from Parties to fill vacancies on the Science-Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) and the Science Advisory Committee (SAC) during the 31st meeting of the Conference of the Parties in June 2023.

• The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) is seeking nominations to replace three members of the Science-Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) whose terms expire in June 2023. The vacancies will be filled at the 31st meeting of the Conference of the Parties in Panama City, Panama, from 21 to 22 June 2023.
• For the SPAC, the IAI identifies South America and the Caribbean as underrepresented geographic regions. The current committee composition is four female and two male members. Desired complementary expertise includes Economics, Science Diplomacy, Biodiversity governance, Agricultural policy, and Indigenous peoples and local communities.
• The IAI is seeking a nomination to replace one member of the Science Advisory Committee (SAC) whose term expires in June 2023, to be filled at the 31st meeting of the Conference of the Parties in Panama City, Panama, from 21 to 22 June 2023.
• For the SAC, the Tropical Andes and the Caribbean are identified as underrepresented geographic regions. The committee currently consists of seven female and four male members. The IAI is seeking complementary expertise in Societal transformations, Economics, Agriculture and soils, Indigenous peoples and local communities, and Informatics, big data, and artificial intelligence.
