The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) announces that its Executive Director was elected as co-chair of the Belmont Forum on October 26, 2021, alongside Maria Uhle of the National Science Foundation.

• On October 26, 2021, during the first day of the Belmont Forum Plenary Meeting, the Executive Director of the IAI was elected as co-chair of the Forum. Maria Uhle, who serves as the IAI Focal Point for the United States and Director of the International Activities Program at the National Science Foundation's Directorate for Geosciences, remains the other co-chair.
• The IAI expects that closer alignment with the Belmont Forum, specifically regarding Collaborative Research Actions (CRA), will increase support for transdisciplinary research in the region and foster collaboration between the IAI scientific community and external communities. This partnership is exemplified by the IAI's role in defining priorities in the Americas for the second round of the CRA on Climate, Environment, and Health (CEH2).
• Referencing Decision XXVI/42, the IAI invites Parties to contact its Executive Directorate for information on the Belmont Forum and to continue discussions regarding the creation of a flexible financing mechanism for global change projects in the Americas, involving national funding institutions and regional or international development banks.
