A notification from the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) announcing a new deadline of 17 July 2020 for submitting nominations for representatives to the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), following the postponement of the CoP-28 to 19 August 2020.

• The deadline for submitting nominations for qualified representatives to the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) was set for 17 July 2020, due to the postponement of the CoP-28 to 19 August 2020.
• The Scientific Advisory Committee consists of ten members elected by the Conference of the Parties for three-year terms, with a maximum of two terms. The composition includes six members nominated by Parties, three nominated by the SAC itself, and one nominated by the Institute's Associates.
• Several SAC vacancies occurred in 2020: Dr. Tereza Cavazos (Mexico) and Dr. Carlos Alfredo Joly (Brazil) concluded their terms as Party nominees; Dr. Antonio Magalhaes (Brazil) and Dr. Michelle Grunauer (Ecuador) concluded their terms as SAC nominees; and Dr. Moacyr Araujo (Brazil) resigned as the Associate nominee in March 2020.
• The SAC is tasked with making recommendations to the Conference of the Parties on the Institute's Scientific Agenda, long-range plans, and annual program, as well as directing the peer review system and assessing scientific results.
• Nominees for the SAC are expected to possess high academic and research excellence, a Doctorate or equivalent, expertise in inter- or transdisciplinary science, and an understanding of the social, economic, political, and ecological realities of the Americas.
