The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Directorate and the Intergovernmental Coordinating Committee of the Countries of the La Plata Basin (CIC) signed a Letter of Agreement on 15 August 2019 in Montevideo, Uruguay, to strengthen cooperation in scientific research and capacity building.

• The IAI Directorate and the Intergovernmental Coordinating Committee of the Countries of the La Plata Basin (CIC) signed a Letter of Agreement on 15 August 2019 in Montevideo, Uruguay, during the launch of the Project for the Implementation of Program on Strategic Actions in the La Plata Basin. This agreement aims to "strengthen cooperation between the two organizations".
• The agreement is designed to support joint activities in scientific research and capacity building within the La Plata Basin countries, specifically Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay, while providing governments with scientific data to inform public policy regarding socio-economic and environmental challenges.
• The initiative intends to increase coordination and cooperation with the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) and the Organization of American States (OAS), which serve as the implementing and executing agencies for the Project, respectively.
