NOTIFICATION

The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) has released a draft outline for its Strategic Plan, designed as a 25-year roadmap to support science-informed policies and sustainable development in the Americas. The plan is structured around three themes: meeting the needs of member Parties, advancing a science agenda for regional sustainability, and ensuring the organizational sustainability of the IAI. Key priorities include food, water, and energy security, as well as the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services to mitigate climate change. The document also emphasizes cross-cutting goals such as open data, capacity building, and the inclusion of women, girls, and Indigenous Peoples.

• The IAI Strategic Plan is intended to serve as a "Roadmap for the next 25 years" and will be reviewed at minimum every three years to remain a "living document that changes with the needs of the Parties and the organization."
• The plan is organized into three primary themes: "Meeting the needs of the Parties", "Science for the Sustainability of the Americas (IAI Science Agenda)", and "Sustainability of the IAI".
• Under the Science Agenda, the IAI identifies specific goals for regional security, including promoting local capacity for "Food security", encouraging transboundary cooperation for "Water security", and transferring knowledge on "sustainable energy" for "Energy security".
• Regarding biodiversity and ecosystem services (BES), the IAI aims to develop protocols for restoring degraded areas as a "climate change mitigation strategy" and produce evidence to help increase protected areas to meet "Aichi Target 11".
• The Strategic Plan incorporates cross-cutting elements that must be addressed in every goal, including providing opportunities for "women, girls, and Indigenous Peoples", promoting "Open Data and Science", and supporting "scientific translation" to bridge the gap between scientists and policy makers.
• To ensure organizational sustainability, the IAI seeks to raise its profile, pursue "Sustainable funding" beyond the NSF (including endowments), and partner with international entities, including countries with "territories/colonial history in the Americas".
