• At the SBSTA-48 Tenth Meeting of the Research Dialogue, the IAI Directorate presented a focus on three primary objectives to support the Paris Agreement: developing synergies with Parties for regional-scale actions based on national priorities, communicating science to create action-oriented synergies across mitigation, adaptation, technology transfer, and capacity-building, and facilitating the communication of science for adaptation policies.
• The SBSTA-48 Conclusions (FCCC/SBSTA/2018/L.11) emphasize the necessity of regional institutions for the exchange of knowledge at local, national, and regional levels, and suggest that regional science communication initiatives, organized with stakeholders and research organizations, would be valuable.
• A submission to the UNFCCC by Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay identified science communication as a priority to help communicate research needs and priorities from Parties to the scientific community, while noting the IAI's role in promoting interdisciplinary and multinational scientific research networks in the Americas to inform political action.
• The IAI Directorate and the Pvblic Foundation are investigating the application of blockchain technology in research to support Party actions. This includes planning impact-oriented events focused on blockchain solutions for public health, decarbonization, and the conservation of natural resources, including the Blockchain for Impact Summit scheduled for 4 June 2018 at the United Nations Headquarters.
