A notification from the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) announcing that its Executive Directorate in Montevideo, Uruguay, will host the Secretariat of the Belmont Forum.

• The Executive Council of the Belmont Forum accepted an Expression of Interest on November 7, 2017, for the IAI Executive Directorate to host the Belmont Forum Secretariat in Montevideo, Uruguay.
• The IAI and Belmont Forum organized a meeting on November 7, 2017, in São Paulo, Brazil, to discuss creating a flexible mechanism to facilitate funding for cooperative global change scientific research in the Americas.
• The decision to host the Belmont Forum Secretariat in Montevideo is expected to create new opportunities for the IAI to generate cooperative global change research projects, strengthen scientific networks across the Americas, and support the establishment of a flexible and cooperative funding mechanism for the continent.
• The notification references two previous Conference of the Parties (CoP) decisions: Decision XXV/27 from the 25th meeting in Bogotá (2017) regarding participation in the 'Belmont Forum Americas Information Days', and a decision from the 23rd meeting in Lima (2015) to create a list of funding agencies interested in a Belmont-type agreement for international global change research projects by September.
