A notification from the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) announcing that the Belmont Forum Executive Council has accepted an Expression of Interest for the IAI Directorate to host the Belmont Forum Secretariat in Montevideo, Uruguay.

• On 7 November 2017, during a meeting in São Paulo, Brazil, the Belmont Forum Executive Council accepted an Expression of Interest from the IAI Directorate to host the Belmont Forum Secretariat in Montevideo, Uruguay.
• The hosting of the Secretariat in Montevideo is intended to increase opportunities for the IAI to establish collaborative scientific projects and networks regarding global change research across the Americas, while supporting the creation of a flexible collaborative funding mechanism.
• The decision follows previous Conference of the Parties (CoP) decisions, including Decision XXV/27 from the 25th meeting in Bogota (2017) regarding the Belmont Forum Americas Information Days in São Paulo, and a 2015 decision from the 23rd meeting in Lima to prepare a list of funding agencies for a Belmont-like agreement to fund global change research in the IAI and the continent.
