MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN FUTURE EARTH INTERNATIONAL AND THE INTER-AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR GLOBAL CHANGE RESEARCH

The document outlines a partnership between Future Earth International and the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) focused on global change and sustainability research in the Americas. The agreement aims to strengthen the science-policy-practice interface and support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through joint activities such as setting scientific agendas, organizing workshops, and communicating research outcomes. The MOU specifies that the parties remain separate entities and provides guidelines for fundraising, intellectual property, and dispute resolution, with an initial duration lasting until September 2022.

• The primary objective of the cooperation is to enhance scientific contributions to policy processes and implement transdisciplinary research within the Americas to support regional policy and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
• Future Earth agrees to support the IAI by identifying knowledge gaps, increasing engagement in shared networks, providing access to communication tools, and strengthening North-South engagement on sustainability science and policy interfaces in the Americas.
• The IAI will contribute to Future Earth by utilizing Future Earth's expertise and strategies to enrich its own science programmes, identifying knowledge gaps for joint projects, and strengthening North-South engagement in the Americas.
• Joint activities between the two organizations include collaborating on scientific agendas, research networking, organizing capacity-building events and workshops, and developing joint contributions to policy fora.
