This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishes a cooperation framework between Future Earth International and the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) to promote transdisciplinary research on global change and sustainability in the Americas.

• The purpose of the MOU is to enhance scientific contributions to policy processes and implement transdisciplinary research within the Americas to support regional and national policy and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
• Future Earth agrees to support IAI by identifying knowledge gaps for future projects, increasing mutual engagement in networks, providing access to communication tools to help IAI interact with diverse stakeholders, and strengthening North-South engagement on sustainability science-policy-practice interfaces in the Americas.
• IAI agrees to support Future Earth by using Future Earth's expertise and deliverables to guide IAI science programmes and data collection, identifying knowledge gaps for joint projects, and strengthening North-South engagement on sustainability science in the Americas.
• The parties agree to collaborate on specific joint activities, including the setting of scientific agendas, research networking, the organization of workshops and scientific meetings, the communication of research outcomes for decision making, and joint contributions to policy fora.
• The MOU was signed in September 2017 and was scheduled to remain in force until September 2022, unless terminated earlier with three months' written notice.
