This Letter of Agreement (LoA) establishes a collaboration between the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) and the Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies (CERMES) at the University of the West Indies. • The collaboration specifically integrates the NOAA-CERMES Climate Resilience Enhancement Programme (NCCREP), supported by the U.S. Department of State, with the IAI Science, Technology and Policy (STeP) Fellowship program. Under this arrangement, NCCREP research fellows will participate as STeP fellows.
• The NCCREP aims to bridge research and decision-making communities in the Caribbean by translating climate science into products for resource and risk management. It provides applied research fellowships of up to 12 months for MSc students who have completed their coursework, covering living expenses and one return economy airfare to a host agency in the Caribbean region.
• The IAI STeP program is designed to strengthen the use of scientific information for public and private policy in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). It offers a two-year professional development program focusing on "Leadership, Communication, and Science Diplomacy" for early career researchers, including those at masters, PhD, and postdoctoral levels.
• The agreement specifies a two-year duration for the specific collaboration described in Annex 1. CERMES is responsible for supporting up to three fellows every 12 months for two years and serving as the coordinating institution for NCCREP fellow placement. IAI is responsible for providing the professional development training and inviting fellows to 1-2 international events.
