LETTER OF AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE INTER-AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR GLOBAL CHANGE RESEARCH (IAI) AND THE CENTRE FOR RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES (CERMES) AT THE UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST INDIES

The IAI and CERMES have agreed to a two-year partnership to create synergies between the NOAA-CERMES Climate Resilience Enhancement Programme (NCCREP) and the IAI Science, Technology and Policy (STeP) Fellowship program. The collaboration aims to bridge the gap between climate science research and decision-making in the Caribbean and Latin America by providing professional development in leadership, communication, and science diplomacy for early-career researchers. CERMES is responsible for coordinating the placement of up to three fellows annually in Caribbean host institutions and managing funding via NOAA, while the IAI provides a professional development program and access to an Inter-American networking platform.

• The collaboration specifically integrates the NOAA-CERMES Climate Resilience Enhancement Programme (NCCREP), supported by the U.S. Department of State, with the IAI Science, Technology and Policy (STeP) Fellowship program.
• The NCCREP aims to translate climate science findings into products that support risk and resource management in the Caribbean, offering MSc students applied research fellowships of up to 12 months with host agencies in the region.
• The IAI STeP program focuses on strengthening the use of scientific information for public and private policy in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), providing a two-year professional development program centered on Leadership, Communication, and Science Diplomacy.
• Under the agreement, CERMES will support up to three fellows every 12 months for a period of two years and will act as the coordinating entity for their placement in host institutions.
