Decimotercera reunión de la Conferencia de las Partes (CoP) del IAI

This document records the decisions made during the 13th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held in Polamar, Venezuela, on May 23-24, 2006.

• The CoP established the leadership for its 13th meeting, appointing Gioconda Luna of Venezuela as President, Maria Assuncao Silva Dias of Brazil as First Vice President, and Margaret Leinen of the United States as Second Vice President.
• Ten delegations submitted official credentials to participate in the meeting: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, United States, Mexico, Panama, and Venezuela.
• The CoP modified the IAI Procedures for Suspension and Cancellation of Projects (IAI/ID.22.E/2003), Article 1.2.1, to state that a Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI, grantee, or subgrantee may be deemed ineligible for future IAI funding until the grant agreement is fully satisfied and causes for suspension are removed.
• The CoP adopted recommendations regarding human subjects and informed consent, mandating that the IAI ensure international protocols are applied to all funded research and that PIs or Co-PIs obtain authorization from a recognized committee before funds are released.
• Administrative and financial approvals were granted for the 2006-2007 Fiscal Year, including the Basic Budget Request and the level of Country Contributions. Additionally, the CoP accepted Brazil's invitation to hold the 14th meeting in Manaus.
