Action List

This document is the Action List from the Thirteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held in Porlamar, Venezuela, on May 23-24, 2006. It records administrative decisions, elections, budget approvals, and policy modifications made during the two-day session.

• The CoP elected a Bureau for the Thirteenth Meeting consisting of Gioconda Luna (Venezuela) as Chair, Maria Assuncao Silva Dias (Brazil) as First Vice-Chair, and Margaret Leinen (United States) as Second Vice-Chair.
• The CoP modified the Suspension and Termination Procedures for IAI Projects (IAI/ID.22.E/2003), Article 1.2.1 IAI Policy, to state that PIs, Co-PIs, grantees, or subgrantees may be deemed ineligible for future IAI funding until grant agreements are satisfied and causes for suspension are removed.
• The CoP endorsed recommendations regarding Human Subject protocols and Informed Consent, requiring that international protocols be applied to all IAI funded research and that PIs or Co-PIs obtain approval from a recognized human subjects committee before funds are released.
• The CoP approved the Core Budget Request and the level of Country Contributions for the 2006-2007 fiscal year.
• The CoP elected members of the EC for a two-year term, including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, USA, and Venezuela, and accepted Brazil's invitation to host the 14th meeting in Manaus.
