Agenda Provisional Conferencia Extraordinaria de las Partes (CoP) del IAI

This document is a provisional agenda and procedural guide for an Extraordinary Conference of the Parties (CoP) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held on March 9, 2017, in Panama City, Panama, for the purpose of electing a new Executive Director.

• The primary purpose of the Extraordinary Conference of the Parties (CoP) held on March 9, 2017, in Panama City, was to elect the next Executive Director of the IAI based on a recommendation from the Executive Director Selection Commission.
• The election of the Executive Director requires a two-thirds majority vote by the CoP. The term of office is three years, which can be renewed for a single additional period. The candidate cannot be a citizen or permanent resident of the host party of the Executive Directorate, which is Uruguay.
• The election process must be conducted via secret ballot. The CoP President appoints two representatives as scrutineers, who must not be directly involved in the election, to manage the process, count votes, determine validity, and certify results.
• A quorum for the plenary sessions is defined as half of the active IAI parties. With 16 active parties, the required quorum is 8. Accreditations are validated by a Credentials Commission composed of Argentina, Canada, and the United States.
