• The election of the IAI Executive Director is governed by Article VIII of the establishing Agreement and the Standing rules of the Conference of the Parties. The Director must be elected by a two-thirds majority for a three-year term, with the possibility of one additional term, and cannot be a citizen or permanent resident of the country hosting the Directorate. Voting is conducted via secret ballot, and Parties must submit nominations 45 days before the election.
• Following Decision XXX/4 from the 30th meeting of the Conference of the Parties in 2022, a recruitment process was initiated. A selection committee was formed, chaired by the Chair of the Executive Council and including representatives from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Guatemala, Panama, the Science Advisory Committee, and the Science-Policy Advisory Committee. The Executive Director of the Belmont Forum also joined the committee, while the IAI Directorate's Deputy Director attended as an observer.
• The vacancy announcement for the Executive Director post was published on 13 September 2022. Applications were received from candidates representing South, Central, and North America.
